Marketing Tips for Business
Issue 3 October

Hi folks:

Hope this finds you well and anticipating a great last quarter.

Marketing Tips for November:

As we fast approach what appears to be a snowy, wintry season, there is the thought that Christmas and it's marketing opportunities are upon us.

Not all that long ago, a major company decided that because things "were down" financially, they would shrink their marketing for the holidays. The result had horrible implications. Not shortly after, K Mart would file for bankruptcy.

With so many businesses starting up in the last few years because of down sizing and it's layoffs, coupled with the imaginations and creativity bringing about new business, many are faced with the dilemma of how to market for an economy like this.

Over the last few months I have spoken of various types of marketing and approaches, but as we get close to Christmas, for many of us it is the final leg of our financial year. Many retailers see 1/3rd of their total year in the next few months come in.

What is the secret? You have to be visible for people to use your service or visit your establishment. There is no other way. If you are a new business, this often seems so very difficult. But whether you are a web site, or a retail store or a service business, you have learned the value of promoting your self. Use all the mileage you can get out of publications for your next event. Utilize press release and brochures. (We have a press release service available, as well as a great client who would provide you with brochures, flyers and posters.)

This is the season of intense marketing.

Some special tips.

Internet-Clean up your site and get your holiday specials available. (No site-call me.)

Print-Open a paper and see what ads jump out to you. See what sets them apart and see how you can incorporate them. Most papers will do your layouts at little or minimal charge. Show them what you are looking for it. Don't just "wing it."

Radio-Avoid the cliches like "biggest sales yet," or "lowest prices ever." Talk to them like they are people. Hook the emotions in the first 5 seconds.

That's all for this month. Obviously, if I can help you I would love to. Many clients ask us how we rate. Here is today's ratings which are consistent with where we are regularly. Check out the MIT site. These are the results. Lines in red are us.

Who are you advertising with?

Sincerely,
Lee
